Smithsonian Magazine reported on an exhibition in Florence of more than 80 incomplete artworks, which will later travel to Washington, D.C.

According to Smithsonian Magazine, an exhibition titled Broken: The Power of the Fragment brings together more than 80 incomplete artworks spanning 4,500 years at the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. Next year the show moves to Washington, D.C., where the National Gallery of Art will present it. The outlet reported that its curators, C.D. Dickerson III and Andrew Sears, trace how the pieces were damaged, from political and religious change to war, colonialism and natural disasters. One of the works on view is a limestone fragment with the nose and lips of the pharaoh Akhenaten, made around 1350 B.C.E.
