FOUNDING MEMBER — APPLICATION PROCESS

The American Society of History, Arts and Letters (ASHAL) is a U.S.-based institution, headquartered in Orlando, Florida, dedicated to recognizing and honoring individuals of distinction in the fields of History, Literature, the Arts, and the Humanities. ASHAL brings together authors, scholars, educators, artists, and cultural leaders from across the nation and the world within a framework of excellence, integrity, and international reach.

Becoming a Founding Member of ASHAL is more than an honor — it is an act of co-authorship. Founding Members are the charter members of the Society: those who join during its inaugural phase and, by doing so, help establish the intellectual and cultural foundation of the institution. This status is exclusive to this formative period and will not be available once the founding phase closes.

ASHAL operates in English as its primary institutional language, reflecting its international scope and commitment to broad intellectual exchange.

How the process works:

  1. Submit your application using the form on this page;

  2. Initial review and eligibility screening;

  3. Merit review by the ASHAL Admissions Committee;

  4. If approved: signing of the Membership Agreement and payment of the Institutional Fee;

  5. Official registration, issuance of credentials, and public announcement of induction.

WHO SHOULD APPLY

ASHAL welcomes applications from authors, scholars, educators, artists, intellectuals, and cultural practitioners whose work demonstrates a meaningful contribution to the fields of History, Literature, the Arts, or the Humanities — and who wish to participate in an international institution dedicated to recognizing and elevating intellectual and cultural excellence.

OBJECTIVES

ASHAL's mission is to:

  • recognize and honor individuals whose intellectual, artistic, and cultural contributions have left a meaningful mark on history, literature, the arts, and the humanities;

  • bring together authors, scholars, educators, artists, and cultural leaders within an institutional framework of international distinction;

  • promote the advancement of History, Literature, the Arts, and the Humanities across disciplines and traditions;

  • foster intellectual and cultural exchange across diverse contexts, disciplines, and national traditions;

  • strengthen the international circulation of ideas, works, research, and cultural experiences.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone with a meaningful contribution to a field aligned with ASHAL's mission: History, Literature, the Arts, or the Humanities. Formal academic credentials are not required — excellence and verifiable achievement are what matter.

What materials strengthen an application?

  • A well-organized curriculum vitae highlighting verifiable accomplishments;

  • Intellectual, artistic, or professional work — including books, publications, exhibitions, or a portfolio;

  • Official links and institutional records: events, ISBN, DOI, awards, board memberships, press features;

  • Formal documentation: certificates, letters of recognition, project records;

  • A concise statement of purpose describing your intellectual journey and interest in ASHAL.

Is there a deadline?

The Founding Member application process is open during ASHAL's inaugural phase. Once the founding phase closes, this membership category will no longer be available. Any specific deadlines will be announced on this page.

How are applications reviewed?

The review process includes documentary screening and merit evaluation conducted by the ASHAL Admissions Committee. Applications are assessed for quality, relevance, coherence, documentary integrity, and alignment with ASHAL's mission. Additional information may be requested to ensure a thorough and fair review.

How long does the review take?

Review times vary based on application volume and documentary complexity. Under standard conditions, the review typically takes between 3 and 10 business days. ASHAL prioritizes thoroughness to ensure institutional integrity.

Do I need a formal academic degree (PhD, MA, etc.) to apply?

No. ASHAL values excellence and verifiable achievement above formal credentials. Academic degrees may strengthen an application, but they are not the sole criterion: consistency, quality, ethics, impact, and intellectual contribution are all considered.

What happens if my application is approved?

Upon approval, ASHAL formalizes membership through official institutional registration, issuance of credentials and a membership certificate, and a public profile on the ASHAL website identifying your academic affiliation and field of expertise. Public announcement and additional membership prerogatives follow institutional protocols.

What if my application is not approved?

In appropriate cases, ASHAL may advise the applicant to reapply in a future cycle with more comprehensive documentation or after further development of their portfolio or professional trajectory.

Am I required to participate in ASHAL activities after joining?

Membership is primarily an honorific and institutional distinction, with no mandatory participation obligations. Members are warmly encouraged to contribute to ASHAL's mission and engage with its collegiate bodies and initiatives, always in keeping with their own availability and professional commitments.
